Key Stage 3

At The Duston School our Key stage 3 provision follows the national curriculum during year 7 and 8. During year 9 students start work towards their GCSE in ICT as detailed below.

Year 7

Following a brief introductory unit incorporating topics on e-safety and appropriate use of the internet and email student complete a series of units introducing them to a range of office applications, During the course of the year students will improve their skills in creating presentations and develop their skills in creating spreadsheets and databases. Towards the end of the year students will complete a unit on computer games design.

Year 8

The year 8 curriculum builds upon the skills learnt in year 7 and prepares the students for GCSE ICT: once again key areas covered include spreadsheets and presenting information in different forms and to different audiences. Students will also gain experience in using the internet to research a variety of topics and will gain an understanding of data reliability and information bias.
